1.2 Design Structure
medium voltage (3300V—15000V) soft starter should be used together with inlet
cabinet equipped with disconnector switch.
→ Load Switch:
The load switch on the inlet cabinet allows the motor with the load to start. This switch
has the ability to start with on-load short-circuit and stop when load stop. Its maximum
design value is: 5KV load switch is for 2300V-4160V starters, 7.2KV is for
6000V-7200V starters, while 15KV is for 10KV-14KV soft starting cabinet.
→ Soft Starting Cabinet:
The soft start section is composed of bypass vacuum contactor, SCR overvoltage
protection, SCR high-voltage components, RC absorption network, trigger circuit and
control components.
→ Bypass Vacuum Contactor
The contactor is closed after the soft starter starts the motor, the current through the
bypass vacuum contactor. The selected voltage ratio of the contactor is: 5KV for
2300V—4160V; 7.2KV for 6000V-7200V, and 15KV for 10KV-15KV soft starters.
→ RC Absorption Circuit
To provide transient voltage protection circuit to reduce the dv/dt impulse voltage thus
avoiding damage to thyristor.
→ Trigger Circuit
To provide high-power trigger pulse of up to more than 2A to ensure the dynamic
voltage balance of SCR connected in series. Both trigger circuit and SCR are at high
voltage and separated from control panel through fiber and transformer.
→ SCR high Voltage Components
This consists of several SCR connected into series, see table 1.1 below
